GODFLESH
Godflesh are an English industrial metal duo from Birmingham, formed in 1988 by guitarist-vocalist Justin Broadrick and bassist G.C. Green out of the ashes of their earlier band Fall of Because. Their sound fuses distorted, downtuned guitar with programmed drum machines and dub-heavy bass, a combination that helped define industrial metal before the genre had a name and later shaped bands from Isis to Korn. Broadrick arrived with grindcore credentials already intact, having written most of the guitar work on Napalm Death's genre-founding album Scum as a teenager. Godflesh's 1989 debut album Streetcleaner remains a touchstone of extreme music, and after a 2002 breakup and a 2010 reformation, the band continued releasing records, including 2023's Purge. In 2026 Broadrick announced Godflesh would stop performing live for health reasons, with two further studio albums still to come.
