Eddy Current Suppression Ring

Eddy Current Suppression Ring formed in 2003 after four Melbourne workmates jammed at the Christmas party of a vinyl pressing plant in Highett, where guitarist Michael Young pressed records by day. Fronted by Brendan Huntley's speak-sing delivery and built on shredding power chords and a locked-in rhythm section, the four-piece turned mundane subjects, watching TV and eating ice cream, into stripped-back garage punk recorded fast and played sparingly. Their second album, Primary Colours, cut in a single 24-hour session in 2007, won the Australian Music Prize, and Rush to Relax cracked the ARIA Top 20 in 2010. The band treats activity as a choice rather than an obligation, disappearing for years and resurfacing without warning, most recently with the surprise 2026 album In Light of Recent Events. Two decades on, they remain one of Australia's most revered underground acts, raw and ferocious live, without ever having chased the spotlight.
