Ecca Vandal
Ecca Vandal grew up absorbing gospel, soul, and '90s R&B in Melbourne before spending her formative years training as a jazz musician at the Victorian College of the Arts — then punk's DIY abandon rewired everything. Born in South Africa to Sri Lankan Tamil parents who resettled in Australia, she arrived on the scene in 2014 with debut single "White Flag" and built a reputation for high-voltage performances alongside Queens of the Stone Age, The Prodigy, and Incubus. Her 2017 self-titled debut earned 4.5 stars from Rolling Stone for its cocktail of punk, hip-hop, soul, and electronic — genre-bending in practice rather than as a marketing pitch. Her second album, "Looking for People to Unfollow," arrived in May 2026 via Loma Vista Recordings, recorded with producer Richie Buxton in a bayside Melbourne bedroom studio and built, by her own account, by tuning out the feed entirely.
