cool calm pete

Peter Chung was born in Seoul, moved to Queens before he could walk, and has spent the years since rapping slower than almost anyone else in New York. As one third of Babbletron he made underground rap that matched the paranoid, technocratic mood of early-2000s New York, then stepped out alone with Lost in 2005, a record assembled from obscure samples, old Korean soul records and found dialogue, delivered in a conversational drawl that sounded like it had nowhere to be. Then he vanished for twenty years. He resurfaced in July 2025 with demolition, sixteen tracks of drumless piano loops, dusty boom bap and low, distorted vocals circling the passage of time. He holds a BFA in painting from Cooper Union, has worked as a graphic designer, and by the account of people who have worked for him has never much cared for the spotlight.
