Brothertiger

Brothertiger is John Jagos, an Ohio-raised, New York-based electronic musician who started the project in a college bedroom in 2009 and has spent the years since refining the same warm, synth-saturated pop. His records pair racks of analog hardware with a soft, hovering vocal: Golden Years and Future Splendors arrived on Mush Records in 2012 and 2013, after which he went independent and stayed that way. In 2017 he recorded a full front-to-back cover of Tears for Fears' Songs from the Big Chair, a gesture that reads less as tribute than as an argument about where his own melodies come from. Alongside the vocal albums he maintains a parallel instrumental series, Fundamentals, assembled from livestreamed improvisations and now six volumes deep. Recent work includes Paradigms, a 2025 collaboration with Hotel Pools, and a podcast in which he interviews other working musicians about the business they are all trying to survive.
