Batu is Omar McCutcheon, a producer and DJ from Bristol who has spent the past decade bending bass weight into something stranger and more architectural than the city's dubstep roots would predict. He founded the Timedance label in 2015, at first just to release his own tracks, and built it into one of the most influential imprints in UK dance music, a home for close peers like Bruce, Ploy and Lurka. His output moves between angular, physical club tracks and quieter, more interior work: the 2022 debut album Opal traded floor-ready pressure for pure sound design, and his production for FKA Twigs pushed his non-conformist palette toward pop. In 2026 he released Exhale, a full-length made with the revered Italian techno artist Donato Dozzy. As a DJ he plays long, patient sets everywhere from Glastonbury, Dekmantel, Sonar and Unsound to the intimacy of a decommissioned police cell beneath the city.
